First hydrogen filling station in Baltics put into service
“Rīgas satiksme” informs that the Construction Board has accepted the putting into service of the first hydrogen production, filling and storage station located in Riga, at Vienības gatve 6, next to trolleybus depot No. 2. It is planned that the station will start operation in the early 2020. The construction of the hydrogen filling station is a part of the “H2Nodes” international project and it will be available for both the filling of public transport and public usage.
In this project, “Rīgas satiksme” has already received 10 hydrogen-driven trolleybuses that have all the necessary certificates and have passed all the necessary tests before being accepted for service. Now the procedure of accepting trolleybuses for service is underway. It should be noted that the hydrogen trolleybuses manufactured in Riga are the first vehicles of such type in the world.
With one filling lasting just 7-10 minutes, hydrogen-driven electric vehicles can run 300-400 km, trolleybuses will be able to run without contact network up to 200 km, and hydrogen-driven electric cars about 600 km after being filled for 3-5 minutes.
The planned project costs are EUR 16.1 M, of which 50% are co-funded by the European Union.
